Meet Beth
Dr. Beth Ellen Adubato is a professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Saint Peter’s University and a Fulbright Scholar. A proud Rutgers alumna, she earned her B.A. in English with highest honors before going on to complete an M.A. in Criminal Justice, a Master’s in Public Affairs and Politics, and ultimately a Ph.D. in 2011. Her research and writing have made an impact both in academia and beyond, with her dissertation on professional football and domestic violence later published as a book. She has authored multiple works, including Grammar for Grownups, Life’s a Mother, and Crime in TV, the News, and Film: Misconceptions, Mischaracterizations, and Misinformation. She is currently co-authoring a forthcoming textbook, Out of Bounds: The Intersection of Sports and Crime. In addition to her writing, Dr. Adubato has contributed to peer-reviewed journals, government publications, and conferences around the country. She has also been recognized nationally as a keynote speaker, including an invitation to address the U.S. Department of Justice on Title IX.

Outside of the classroom, Beth is deeply committed to advocacy and community leadership. She is the founder and executive director of the LINDA Organization, a charitable initiative that provides essential items such as toiletries, cosmetics, clothing, and children’s products to women in need. The organization’s mission is to serve women who are victims of domestic violence, returning citizens striving to rebuild their lives after incarceration, and homeless women facing systemic challenges. LINDA operates through collegiate chapters, with the Alpha Chapter at Saint Peter’s University leading the way, and lives by the belief that we are all “equally beautiful and beautifully equal.” Beth also advocates for equity in higher education as a union leader. She has been elected four times as the Vice President of the adjunct faculty union at Rutgers University in Newark, having previously served on its executive board.

Before her academic career, Dr. Adubato built a strong presence in journalism and media. She began her career as a news anchor and reporter at the smallest CBS affiliate in Alpena, Michigan, and went on to anchor morning news in Erie, Pennsylvania, before becoming the first woman to anchor sports in Birmingham, Alabama. She later worked with Metro TV in New York City, Court TV, and News 12 NJ, where she served as an anchor and reporter for nearly a decade. Her media experience has extended to appearances as a reporter on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Cupid, and The Following, as well as contributions to documentaries exploring gender issues. This blend of professional and media experience has given her a unique ability to connect with broad audiences while raising awareness of critical issues.
Beyond her professional and advocacy work, Beth's life is deeply rooted in New Jersey and shaped by a passion for the arts, athletics, and education. Born in Montclair and raised in West Orange, she proudly says she has “lived in or gone to school in all of the Oranges.” Her father, Richie Adubato, coached both in the NBA and WNBA, leading teams including the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Washington Mystics, and New York Liberty. Her daughter, Allegra Masters, carries forward a love of performance as an actor and fitness trainer in New York City. Beth also teaches cardio dance and Luigi Jazz Technique at Saint Peter’s University’s Wellness Center, sings with the SPU Chorale, and spends summers teaching in Rome at John Cabot University. A lifelong New York Mets fan, she proudly cheers “Let’s Go Mets” as part of her Jersey roots and community spirit.
